Third Circular

Juelich, 28.06.2007

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the organizers of the COSY-11 and WASA-at-COSY symposium I would like to thank you cordially for your active participations in the scientific discussions and nice atmosphere during the social events. I would also like to express my gratitude to the speakers for the excellently prepared, very instructive and interesting talks. Your presentations were put temporarily on the password proctected WASA-at-COSY Wiki Hompage. I would be grateful for the message from each speaker whether you agree to make the presentation publicly available. A short e-mail "I agree" would be fully sufficient.

Written contributions from sessions in Collegium Maius will be published as International Conference Proceedings Series of the American Institute of Physics. The instruction of how to prepare a text is available at: http://confer.uj.edu.pl/COSY-11/07/proc.php. The deadline for sending the contributions is 15th of August.

Hoping to see you again in Cracow,
Yours Sincerely,
Pawel Moskal

Krakow, 06.06.2007

Dear Colleagues,

The meeting on the occasion of the completion of the COSY-11 experiments combined with the physics and analysis meeting of the WASA-at-COSY collaboration will begin already in ten days.

For your convenience we have prepared an internet site http://confer.uj.edu.pl/COSY-11/07 where you can find the scientific programme, information about social events, description of the transportation possibilities from the airport, and a map with locations of places relevant to the meeting.

In order to facilitate you an effective usage of time during lunch breaks we have reserved tables in few restaurants close to the Collegium Maius http://confer.uj.edu.pl/COSY-11/07/map.php The cost of one lunch voucher will be 6 Euro and they will be available at the symposium desk. If you are interested in our proposition please register for lunches at: http://confer.uj.edu.pl/COSY-11/07/lunch.php

I hope very much that you will enjoy the physics discussions and the charming city of Cracow.

Looking forward to seeing you soon

First Circular

Juelich, 17.02.2007

Dear Colleagues,

In October 2006 we carried out the last experiment at the COSY-11 facility. It was a direct measurement of the width of the eta-prime meson where we took advantage of the unique precision of the COSY-11 apparatus and advanced methods of beam monitoring invented during the ELEVEN years of experimenting.

We are still in progress of analysing the data from more than ten experiments, yet the fruitful era of COSY-11 experiments is going to be history and undoubtfully that in itself is a good reason to celebrate!

Since the core of the COSY-11 group is based on the exemplary German-Polish collaboration we have chosen Collegium Maius of the Jagellonian Universityas as location for the main celebration: a place where Nicolaus Copernicus learned astronomy and where now one finds instruments which he used for his research.

For those of us who will continue experimental investigations at COSY new possibilities have opened with the WASA-at-COSY facility, where now we intend to study symmetries in the world of hadrons.

Therefore a natural scheme of the meeting appears as follows:
1) Summary of the physics results of COSY-11...
2) Status of the ongoing projects of COSY-11...
3) Celebrations at Collegium Maius
a) History and social aspects of the COSY-11 collaboration
b) Highlights of the COSY-11 achievements by the world recognized Expert
c) From the candle COSY-11 to the flambeau (fackla) of WASA-at-COSY: a ship we entered to study symmetries in nature
d) FAIR: a horizon for future charming experiments
e) Reception in Stuba Communis
4) Overview of the physics prospects for the WASA-at-COSY and presentations about the ongoing PhD and Diploma projects at WASA-at-COSY. The WASA-at-COSY part at the meeting is also intended to allow students on a volountary basis to present the physics case and and the status of their work at a larger auditorium. Presentation should include: physics motivation, results from other laboratories, experimental method (signal identification and background subtraction), accuracy of signal aimed at and if available, first results...

The meeting will take place in Collegium Maius of the Jagellonian University. The date was fixed for
1) 17.06.2007 COSY-11 Physics
2) 18.06.2007 Symposium on correlation femtoscopy: discussion with invited experts of the COSY-11 results on the correlation function 3) 19.06.2007 The day of celebration
4) 20.06.2007 Presentations on Future Physics at WASA-at-COSY
5) 20.06.2007 Barn-party in the barn with the area of 10^30 barns.

We plan to make a book from the meeting which could include: Overview of the COSY-11 physics, status reports about the physics motivation and data analysis of the ongoing PhD projects from the COSY-11 experiments, reports from the meeting on correlation femtoscopy, photos, reports on the ongoing WASA-at-COSY PhD and Diploma projects presented during the meeting.

Additional ideas are welcome.

The hotels in Cracow are almost completely booked for this summer. Therefore, for your convenience we have booked ALL presently available places in the hotels close to the old town of Cracow. Please examine the attached list and as soon as possible send an e-mail to Barbara Rejdych (brejdych@gmail.com) with the following information:

1) I intend to (cannot) join the meeting.
2) I plan to arrive on (date):
3) I plan to depart on (date):
4) Number of accompanying persons:
5) Please keep for me a reservation of XX-room in the hotel (name, room): We should definitely book the reserved rooms by the second week of March and therefore we need your answer by that time latest

A detailed schedule with titles of lectures will follow in the next e-mails.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon,
Pawel Moskal and Magnus Wolke
