WASA-at-COSY

Description of the WASA experiment

The WASA (Wide Angle Shower Apparatus) detector orginaly opearting at the CELSIUS facility in Uppsala, Sweeden was transferred to COSY accelerator complex in 2006. The WASA-at-COSY detector, shown schematically in figure, is a large acceptance detector consisting of three main parts: the Central Detector (CD), the Forward Detector (FD) and Pellet Target system.
It is capable to detect neutral and charged particles emerged in the collision of beam and target and also particles originating from decays of short life particles. Mainly it was developed for production and detection of the eta and eta' meson decay products in order to study the fundamental symmetries and test the Standard Model predictions.

In the framework of the WASA-at-COSY experiment, our Cracow research group searches for new kind of exotic nuclear matter in the form of mesic-nuclei. Our greatest achievement till now is determination of the upper limit of the probability of the production of the mesic-helium in the duetron-deutron fusion, while the biggest achievement of the international WASA-at-COSY group is the discovery of dibaryon being a particle built out of two baryons (six quarks).

Our greatest achievement till now is determination of the upper limit of the probability of the production of the eta mesic-helium in the duetron-deutron fusion (research supported by the Polish National Science Center through grant No. DEC-2013/11/N/ST2/04152: Search for η-mesic 4He via the exclusive measurement of dd->3Henπ0 and dd->3Hepπ-- reactions). At present, we continue the research in the framework of the grant no 2016/23/B/ST2/00784 of the National Science Center.

Opis eksperymentu WASA

Głownie został stworzony do badania fundamentalnych symetrii dyskretnych oraz testowanie przewidywań Modelu Standardowego (MS) w produkcji i rozpadach mezonów eta i eta-prim.
